On slippery ground: Salamanders brave dangerous crossing to pursue rites of spring
A little-known rite of spring occurs in the Nature Preserve on the Binghamton campus every year. On the first warm, wet spring evening, a half-dozen people -- including biology faculty, graduate and undergraduate students and Friends of the Nature Preserve -- gather along the access road bordering the Nature Preserve right after sundown to scan the road with their flashlights, watching for the annual spotted salamander crossing.
