I suffered from social anxiety and OCD as a child and adolescent, and waited far too long to ask for help. And although I finally sought (and received) effective and empowering treatment, I still feel the reverberations of a childhood lived in a mental prison, and wish that I had known much earlier that it was OK to ask for help. I'm so happy to see that you're working to help people with these issues. God bless and good luck.

I applaud the efforts being taken in this field. I had suffered anxiety disorder and panic attacks for most of my adult life and with the proper education, advice and learning about what anxiety really is has really helped me manage and control the condition giving me a much better quality of life. I wish this research study and its findings all the best and hope all anxiety can be eradicated some day.

Interesting article! Dealing with minor Anxiety myself for the past 40 year give me a little knowledge on the subject. I've dealt with the normal prescribed drugs (Xanax, Klonopin, etc.) and have had some success so I have an emotional attachment to this topic.

It is good to see new research and studies paving new roads towards a cure or at least better manageability.

Thanks for providing such good info and keep up the good work,

Janell

Have to say that I've experienced this first hand through a close friend. He recently got some treatment from a local psychologist and is doing much better now. The contrast is almost night and day and the experience was a real lesson for me. Thank you for the article.

Thanks so much for this post. I battled some anxiety issue's for the first time in my life during my pregnancy. I was so concerned about the health of my child that I decided I had to address it. Your article is dead on, therapy helped tremendously and I'm happy to say mother and daughter are both doing great now.

Great post about anxiety disorders. Hopefully this article can become an additional source of information for parents to be aware about anxiety disorders and to understand the importance of helping children deal with anxiety as early as possible.

I find this psychologists vision of a world without Social Anxiety and OCD to be refreshing and inspiring. Often we get too used to living within the boundaries of our assumptions and develop whole treatment cultures that aid in living with, rather moving beyond, problems.

I have a lot of respect for CBT but I'd like to say that I have 20 years of recovery from OCD and about 8 years of recovery from social anxiety disorder using meditation and 12 step approaches. I have also seen numerous others recover from these same problems using 12 Step programs and meditation as well. Consequently, even though I know that CBT has helped a lot of people, I think it's unfortunate when other non-cognitive options are never even discussed.

12 Step programs such as Social Anxiety Anonymous have been a Godsend for me. Although we keep the anonymity of our group members, I don't see why our program of recovery in general should remain invisible.
